Air India's first retrofitted Boeing 787-8 aircraft, registered as VT-ANT, landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Monday after a non-stop flight from San Bernardino, California. This aircraft is the first of 26 in Air India's fleet to undergo a comprehensive refurbishment, which includes a complete overhaul of cabin interiors, the addition of the latest-generation seats, and the introduction of a premium economy cabin. The refurbishment program, announced in December, involves an investment of over $400 million to upgrade the airline's entire legacy wide-body fleet, which includes 27 Boeing 787-8 and 13 Boeing 777 aircraft. The retrofitted aircraft aims to enhance the flying experience for passengers on long-haul routes across the UK, Europe, the USA, and the Far East. Air India, which was acquired by the Tata Group in January 2022, is optimistic about transforming its service offerings with this initiative.
