The Sikkim government has officially lifted the odd-even vehicle restrictions for private vehicles across all districts, with the exception of Gangtok town, effective immediately. This decision was announced following a review by the Home Department, which confirmed that the state has sufficient buffer stocks of petrol and diesel to meet current demands. However, the existing odd-even regulation for Gangtok, established by the Transport Department, will remain in place. Restrictions on government vehicles, which were part of earlier fuel conservation measures, will continue until further notice. These measures included a ban on purchasing new government vehicles, with exceptions for police and emergency services, and a 30% cut in fuel allotments for official vehicles. The odd-even rule was initially implemented in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for fuel conservation amid the West Asia crisis, which also encouraged the use of public transport and carpooling. The government has also adopted measures such as a five-day work week and work-from-home arrangements for half of its workforce.
