Chandigarh is transitioning to a digital property record system, with an expected launch in June. This initiative involves the digitization of over 48 lakh pages from various departments, including the sub-registrar office, which has already digitized 26.03 lakh pages. The new online system will allow citizens to search for specific documents using keywords such as property or registration numbers, significantly reducing the need for physical visits to offices. The revenue department has scanned around 1.25 lakh pages, while the estate office has completed scanning approximately 18.5 lakh documents. This digitization effort aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and data security, preventing unauthorized alterations and ensuring long-term preservation of records. Concerns about data misuse have been addressed, emphasizing that only publicly accessible information will be available online.
