In response to the persistent issue of illegal garbage dumping in Bengaluru, Jyotish V M, a product designer, created the NammaKasa portal, which enables residents to report dumping incidents quickly and easily. Launched between April 4 and April 8, the portal has already logged 1,249 reports, yet only seven have been addressed, indicating a significant gap in municipal response. One of the major challenges faced during development was accurately mapping Bengaluru's 243 wards, which have irregular boundaries. Jyotish emphasized the portal's user-friendly design, requiring no login or app download, allowing users to report incidents in under 30 seconds. He drew inspiration from cleaner cities in countries like Vietnam and Indonesia, advocating for civic responsibility in maintaining cleanliness. The portal aims not only to alert authorities but also to engage the community in addressing waste management issues.
