Afcons Infrastructure has been awarded a ₹5,301 crore contract for the construction of the offshore breakwater at Vadhavan Port, located in Palghar district, Maharashtra, India. This project is a significant milestone as it will create the largest breakwater in the country, essential for protecting the port from adverse sea conditions and ensuring uninterrupted operations. The Vadhavan Port is projected to handle 23.2 million TEUs and is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹76,220 crore. The port will feature nine container terminals, liquid cargo berths, and multipurpose berths, all under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, marking a first for Indian port projects. The site benefits from a natural depth of 18 meters, which reduces the need for capital dredging, providing a substantial operational advantage. The project aims to achieve a throughput capacity of 308 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) by 2040.
