On June 6, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, alongside Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, launched Green SM’s electric taxi service at the Delhi Secretariat. Sirsa highlighted that the taxis are entirely manufactured in India, specifically in Tamil Nadu, marking it as a 100% Made in India project. The service aims to bolster Delhi’s clean mobility ecosystem with an initial fleet of 1,000 electric vehicles, and plans to expand to 10,000 across the Delhi-NCR region within a year. Key features of the taxis include enhanced safety measures, such as three cameras for monitoring the driver, road, and passenger, with a focus on employing female drivers to promote women’s safety. This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to reducing pollution and improving transportation alternatives. Additionally, on June 5, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched E85 fuel, further emphasizing India’s push towards cleaner transportation solutions on World Environment Day. The launch of E85 fuel and the introduction of compatible vehicles by major manufacturers signify a significant step in diversifying India’s energy mix and promoting sustainable transportation options.
