For the concluding phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Election Commission (EC) has implemented extensive security measures, deploying 2,343 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) across the state, including 273 in Kolkata. This marks the first use of drone surveillance in the state's elections, aimed at ensuring a calm and orderly polling process. In a proactive approach to maintain peace, 1,543 individuals have been arrested in the last 36 hours, particularly targeting known troublemakers, with the highest arrests reported in Purba Bardhaman (479 arrests). The EC has also engaged the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to prevent the use of bombs and ensure the safety of political party workers, following the recovery of crude bombs in the region. Additionally, the EC has made administrative changes, transferring a Joint Block Development Officer and removing two Additional District Magistrates from their election duties, amidst protests from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party regarding police oversight in the area.
