A sequel to the beloved 1984 film Gremlins is in the works, but star Zach Galligan has firmly stated that a reboot will never happen. At the Indiana Comic Convention, Galligan explained that the franchise's ownership lies with Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus, both of whom have expressed their disinterest in rebooting the series. Galligan emphasized that as long as these two are involved, a reboot is off the table. Columbus, who originally wrote the script for Gremlins, is returning to the franchise to write and direct Gremlins 3, which is currently in pre-production and set for release on November 27, 2027. The original film was a massive success, grossing $212 million USD on a budget of just $11 million, and its mix of humor and horror played a role in establishing the PG-13 rating. Galligan noted that while he is not a fan of all remakes, he appreciated the recent Dawn of the Dead reboot, showing that he does not completely dismiss the concept of reboots altogether.
