In a troubling incident in Chennai, a bike-taxi rider and his accomplice robbed a passenger of his mobile phone and cash on Saturday night. The victim, Leela Ram, a 24-year-old welder originally from Rajasthan, had just returned to Chennai and booked a ride through a bike-taxi aggregator app to reach his workplace in Ambattur. After picking him up from Chennai Central railway station, the rider diverted the route near the Madhavaram roundabout and stopped at Thattankulam Road. At this point, another unidentified individual joined them. The duo threatened Ram and forcibly took his mobile phone worth ₹23,000 (approximately $280 USD) along with ₹500 (approximately $6 USD) in cash. They also demanded that he transfer an additional ₹3,500 (approximately $42 USD) via a digital wallet before fleeing the scene. The Madhavaram police have registered a case and are currently working to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in this robbery.
