On Friday morning, three people were killed in two separate incidents of gunfire in Ukhrul district, Manipur, India, escalating ongoing tensions between rival tribal groups. The first incident occurred near Mullam village, where security forces discovered the bodies of L Sitlhou and P Haolai, both dressed in camouflage and suffering from bullet wounds, following a heavy exchange of fire around 5:30 am. Reports indicate that militants also set fire to several houses in the area during the clashes. The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust condemned the killings, referring to the victims as 'village volunteers' and demanded a formal investigation. In a second incident, H Jamang, a 29-year-old from Chatric Khullen in Kamjong district, was ambushed near Sinakeithei village. The Tangkhul Naga Long, representing the Tangkhul Naga community, expressed deep sorrow over Jamang's death, attributing the violence to ongoing tensions with armed Kuki groups. The situation in Ukhrul has been tense since the killing of two Tangkhul Naga civilians in April, with allegations of Kuki militants' involvement, which Kuki organizations have denied.
