A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to investigate a sex racket operating in Amravati district, Maharashtra, India, where a 19-year-old, Mohammad Ayan, has been arrested for allegedly recording sexually explicit videos of around 180 women, including minors, and using them for blackmail. Ayan and three associates were apprehended following the revelation of the racket by BJP MLA Pravin Tayade. The case has drawn significant public outrage, with residents demanding severe penalties for the accused. Maharashtra's state revenue minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, has described the crime as 'extremely grave,' while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a comprehensive investigation. The police have identified 100 objectionable videos circulating on social media and have initiated efforts to remove this content. The SIT, led by assistant superintendent of police Shubham Kumar, consists of ten officers and 36 personnel. The investigation has political implications, with allegations linking Ayan to the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), although the party has distanced itself from him. In a related action, local authorities demolished an illegal extension of Ayan's home in Paratwada.
