The Panchkula police have apprehended Jagtar Singh, a 35-year-old mechanic from Kheri village, Patiala, Punjab, for his involvement in a series of tractor thefts. The investigation began after a tractor-trolley was stolen from a petrol pump in Pinjore, Haryana. Following a detailed probe that included reviewing nearly 300 CCTV footage clips, police tracked Singh across multiple districts and state borders. His method involved stealing tractors parked in isolated areas, using a spare battery to start them, and transporting them to his village for dismantling and resale of parts in the grey market. The police recovered stolen vehicles valued at around ₹40 lakh (approximately $48,000 USD) during the investigation. Singh, who has a history of theft and forgery, confessed to multiple thefts during police remand, leading to the recovery of additional stolen tractors and a trolley. Investigations are ongoing.
