As of Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 174 out of 293 assembly seats in West Bengal, significantly impacting the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). Prominent TMC leaders, including ministers Shashi Panja, Sujit Bose, and Udayan Guha, are trailing in their constituencies. Political analysts attribute the trends to factors such as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, polarization of Hindu and Muslim voters, and anti-incumbency sentiments. The voter turnout reached a record 93.05%, the highest in the state's history, following controversial disenfranchisement issues. Amidst heightened security, repolling is scheduled for the Falta assembly constituency due to allegations of tampering with Electronic Voting Machines. The counting of votes commenced at 8 am across 77 centers, a reduction from previous elections, with additional observers deployed to ensure security.
