In response to isolated heatwave conditions in New Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a review of the city's preparedness as part of the 'Heat Wave Action Plan 2026'. During a meeting at the secretariat, Gupta directed officials to ensure that adequate drinking water is available at public locations and that 'cool rooms' are set up in hospitals. Schools are mandated to provide safe drinking water and assign nodal officers to oversee preventive measures for students. Parents are encouraged to dress children in light clothing and stay connected with school updates. The CM also stressed the importance of hospitals being prepared for heat-related cases, with all ambulances equipped to handle emergencies. A comprehensive awareness campaign is set to educate residents on preventive measures, while schools will introduce a 'water bell' to remind students to hydrate regularly. Gupta highlighted the need for shade and water for animals and birds as well. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) is implementing the plan in collaboration with over 17 partners, ensuring that health centers are stocked with necessary supplies and that construction workers receive adequate protections against extreme heat.
