Effective May 15, 2024, the Indian government has increased petrol and diesel prices by ₹3 per litre, ending a four-year freeze on price adjustments that began in April 2022. In the national capital, Delhi, petrol will now cost ₹97.77 per litre, while diesel will be priced at ₹90.67. Other major cities will see similar increases: Kolkata's petrol will be ₹108.74, Mumbai's at ₹106.68, and Chennai's at ₹103.67. Diesel prices will also rise, with Kolkata at ₹95.13, Mumbai at ₹93.14, and Chennai at ₹95.25. This is the first significant price change since a minor reduction in March 2024, just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
