On Sunday, police in Ghazipur, a locality in East Delhi, dismantled a counterfeit engine oil manufacturing unit, arresting two suspects, Rakesh Kumar Chhabra and Kuldeep Singh, both aged 52. The operation, which had been running for over a year, involved repackaging low-grade oil into bottles labeled with well-known brands such as Castrol, Yamaha, Hero, and Bajaj. Authorities recovered more than 700 litres of counterfeit oil along with packaging materials, including over 550 empty branded bottles and sealing machinery. The police indicated that the scale of the operation suggested a well-organized racket, with the accused allegedly sourcing cheap oil, processing it, and distributing it through local supply channels to attract buyers with lower prices. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Copyright Act, with ongoing investigations to trace the entire supply chain and identify additional distributors and buyers involved.
