On Sunday, Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy inaugurated an Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station at the Gajuwaka APSRTC depot in Visakhapatnam, marking a significant step towards enhancing clean public transport in the state. Reddy stated that Andhra Pradesh is rapidly advancing its EV policy, with plans to incorporate 3,000 buses into the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) fleet within the next 18 months. This initiative includes 750 PM-eBus Scheme buses and 500 CNG buses scheduled for delivery this year, alongside 1,450 EV buses planned for next year. The Minister highlighted that the tender process for these buses has already commenced. Local officials, including Telugu Desam Party state president Palla Srinivasa Rao, noted that the infrastructure development, including the charging station, is crucial for supporting the new electric bus operations. The transition to electric buses is anticipated to reduce financial strain on the transport system and enhance profitability for APSRTC.
