Delhi's air quality index (AQI) remained in the 'satisfactory' range for the second day, recording an average of 86 on Tuesday, an improvement from 88 on Monday. This is the cleanest air Delhi has experienced this year, aided by rain and strong winds since Sunday night, which helped settle particulate matter. The current AQI is one of the lowest recorded since October 8, 2022, when it was 80. For May, this marks the lowest AQI in three years, with the previous low being 85 on May 31, 2023. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) classifies air quality as 'moderate' when the AQI is between 101 and 200. On Tuesday, ozone (O3) was identified as the primary pollutant, while gases such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and carbon monoxide (CO) also contributed to the air quality issues. The CPCB data shows that May has recorded three moderate air quality days and two satisfactory days so far. However, forecasts suggest that the AQI is likely to return to the 'moderate' category on Wednesday, with expectations of remaining in this range until Friday.
