In the aftermath of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) decisive victory in West Bengal, reports of post-poll violence surfaced, particularly targeting offices of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Incidents were reported in areas such as east Kolkata, Tollygunge, and North 24 Parganas, where TMC offices were allegedly attacked by BJP supporters. A TMC ward councillor's office was vandalized, with supporters claiming that armed groups set fire to furniture and banners. Although no casualties have been reported, three individuals were injured in Mamudpur, Naihati, following an attack on a BJP worker's residence. The recent assembly elections, held in April, were noted for their high voter turnout of 92.93%, marking a significant improvement in election safety compared to previous years, which saw numerous casualties and violent incidents. In response to the unrest, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to maintain a presence of around 500 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the state to prevent further violence, echoing concerns raised after the 2021 elections, which also witnessed significant post-poll clashes.
