On Sunday, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan met with Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to discuss the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Pradhan expressed optimism about strengthening educational opportunities and skilling for Goa's youth. The NEP 2020 aims to overhaul India's education system, emphasizing multidisciplinary learning and inclusivity. During a previous meeting with Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities, Pradhan highlighted significant progress in India's higher education sector, noting that total enrolment has reached 4.46 crore, a 30% increase since 2014-15. He also pointed out that female enrolment has surged by 38%, with female Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) now exceeding that of males. Furthermore, Ph.D. enrolment has almost doubled, and the number of female Ph.D. scholars has increased by 136%. The NEP has facilitated the establishment of over 1,200 universities and more than 46,000 colleges, contributing to India's position as one of the largest education systems globally.
