The Karnataka Public School (KPS) in KR Pet, Mandya district, experienced an unprecedented demand for admission forms, with parents queuing overnight to secure their children's spots. On May 20, school staff discovered that some parents had been waiting since the previous evening, highlighting the school's reputation for quality education. Principal Puligeraiah noted that the free English-medium education significantly benefits families, particularly those with limited financial resources. This year, KPS received 190 applications for only 120 LKG seats, necessitating a random draw for admissions. The school's strong academic performance, including a 96% pass rate in SSLC and 88% in II PU, has fueled increasing interest. In response to this demand, the Karnataka government has expanded the KPS initiative, adding 18 more schools in the district, bringing the total to 27. This surge in interest contrasts sharply with many government schools across Karnataka, which are struggling with declining enrolment.
