The Uttar Pradesh Police have intensified their crackdown on vehicular noise pollution by enforcing provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. An official directive from A Satish Ganesh, the additional director general of traffic, mandates action against the use of pressure horns, modified silencers, and excessive honking. Under Section 190(2) of the Act, first-time offenders face up to three months in prison or a fine of up to ₹10,000 ($120 USD). Repeat offenders may face up to six months in prison or similar fines. Additionally, Section 194(F) addresses the misuse of horns in regulated zones, imposing fines of ₹1,000 ($12 USD) for first violations and ₹2,000 ($24 USD) for repeat offences. The directive aims to mitigate urban noise pollution, which significantly impacts public health. Police units statewide are instructed to ensure compliance and increase enforcement, particularly in high-traffic and sensitive areas.
