In a shocking incident in Mahoba district, Uttar Pradesh, Harnarayan Prajapati was murdered by his family due to fears he would squander ₹82,500 (approximately $1,000 USD) intended for his daughter's wedding. The body was discovered in a drain on April 14. Initially, the family reported suspicions against a neighbor, but police soon turned their attention to them after inconsistencies in their story emerged. The investigation revealed that Prajapati's wife, Ram Pyari, along with their daughters Jyoti, Sonali, Pooja, their minor son, and a family friend named Jaibir, conspired to kill him. They strangled him while he was asleep and disposed of his body in a drain. The police also found evidence of their attempts to mislead the investigation, including a broken mobile phone and hidden cash. A reward of ₹10,000 (approximately $120 USD) was announced for the police teams involved in solving the case.
