In Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh, India, a significant initiative under the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) is set to empower 3,000 rural women from over 120 gram panchayats by involving them in the dairy sector. This new phase of the 'White Revolution' aims to enhance women's financial self-reliance through partnerships with the Kashi Milk Producer Company. The company is establishing milk pooling centers along the Prayagraj–Varanasi state highway, focusing on villages with a strong base of dairy farmers. Women involved in self-help groups and animal husbandry will be linked to the company to secure better pricing for their milk. They will receive ₹55.40 per kilogram and a bonus of 60 paise per litre for those supplying over 100 litres daily. Additionally, the initiative provides financial support, including loans of up to ₹2 lakh at nominal interest rates, access to improved cattle breeds, and veterinary services. The long-term goal is to expand this model to 1,000 villages, positioning women as key contributors to dairy-led economic growth in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
