A recent investigation led by additional deputy commissioner Rahul Raiya in Karnal district, Haryana, has exposed a fraudulent scheme involving the illegal sale of wheat from Uttar Pradesh farmers as if it were produced by local Haryana farmers. The probe uncovered that commission agents facilitated this scheme across three grain markets in Karnal, leading to the registration of two FIRs against six agents, including Sandeep Kumar, Jai Bhagwan, Arun Kumar, Rai Singh, Ankit Kumar, and Harmeet Kaur. Additionally, another FIR was lodged against Deepak Kumar for tampering with wheat sacks to increase their weight. District Commissioner Dr. Anand Kumar Sharma emphasized the administration's commitment to addressing fraud in the wheat procurement process. The inquiry also revealed that agents manipulated yield data on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora (MFMB) portal, which is crucial for farmers to obtain gate passes for selling their produce. This situation follows a previous multi-crore paddy procurement scam in the region that resulted in new procurement rules and numerous arrests, highlighting ongoing issues in the agricultural procurement system.
