Bengaluru's long-awaited second international airport is progressing, with the Kanakapura Road corridor as a leading candidate for its location. Currently, Kempegowda International Airport, situated about 35 km north of the city, is overwhelmed with passenger traffic, necessitating the need for an additional airport. A new facility in southern Bengaluru could significantly shorten travel times for residents in areas like JP Nagar and Jayanagar, potentially saving one to two hours per trip. This would also alleviate congestion at the existing airport, leading to shorter queues and less crowded terminals. Furthermore, improved regional connectivity could benefit southern Karnataka and nearby districts by enhancing access to domestic and international flights. The airport project could also spur infrastructure growth, including new roads and metro links, along with a boost in real estate and business opportunities. While the project is still in the feasibility phase, it holds the promise of transforming travel for millions of Bengaluru residents.
