A recent survey conducted by the Right to Food Campaign (RTFC) in Jharkhand reveals significant challenges in the implementation of nutrition schemes at anganwadi centers. The survey, covering 106 anganwadis across 9 districts, found that the pressures of digital compliance, particularly with systems like e-KYC and face recognition, are complicating the work of health workers. Activist Jean Drèze highlighted that many anganwadi sevikas are burdened by the fear of not meeting digital targets, which affects their job security. The survey noted that only 43% of sevikas are able to distribute eggs daily, despite government mandates, and 97% of sevikas reported increased attendance when eggs are provided. Additionally, only 56.1% of beneficiaries have completed the e-KYC process, which is essential for accessing services. The survey also pointed out that 575 villages in Jharkhand still lack mobile network or internet access, further complicating the delivery of nutrition services.
