Developer d10sfan announced this change, attributing it to ongoing issues with GitHub's stability and Microsoft's increasing focus on AI features, particularly the Copilot tool. This migration is part of a broader trend, as other projects like the terminal emulator Ghostty and the Linux distribution Gentoo have also expressed dissatisfaction with GitHub, citing frequent outages and forced AI usage. Ghostty reported that it faced daily disruptions, making GitHub unsuitable for serious development work. As a result, Gentoo is also moving to Codeberg. The original Luxtorpeda project on GitHub has been archived, marking a significant shift in the open-source community's relationship with major tech platforms. This trend is viewed positively by some, as it reflects a desire for more stable and open alternatives in the face of big tech's dominance.
