On Tuesday evening, Abdul Tofiq Sheikh (32), a resident of Sadesatra Nali, escaped from a police vehicle while being transported back to the Hadapsar police station in Maharashtra, India. The incident occurred around 6:40 PM near Gandhi Chowk when Sheikh took advantage of slow-moving traffic and fled while handcuffed. He had been arrested on May 4 for a wire theft case and was remanded to police custody until May 7. As he fled, motorists alerted the police, prompting a swift response from the accompanying officers who chased him down and recaptured him before he could get far. Senior police inspector Sanjay Moghale confirmed that Sheikh is now back in custody, and further legal action is being taken regarding the escape.
