Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has announced a compensation package of ₹20 lakh (approximately $24,000 USD) for the families of four workers who tragically lost their lives in a coal slurry accident at the Moonidih Coal Washery in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand, India. The agreement, reached during a meeting involving BCCL officials, the victims' families, and local authorities, includes a job offer for a dependent of each deceased worker and an additional ₹75,000 for last rites. The incident occurred when a large chunk of coal slurry fell, burying the workers underneath while they were loading slurry into trucks. Following the accident, local villagers protested outside the washery, demanding justice for the victims. In response, BCCL has formed a four-member probe committee to investigate the cause of the accident and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.
