A proposal has been submitted to the Karnataka state government to establish a Kodava Culture Foundation at Kodagu University in Madikeri, Karnataka. The foundation, supported by a ₹10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD) endowment, aims to be a permanent, research-driven institution focused on promoting Kodava culture and community engagement. Vice-chancellor Ashoka Sangappa Alura emphasized that only the annual interest from the endowment will fund its activities, ensuring long-term sustainability. The foundation will serve as a center for research, policy support, language revitalization, and youth outreach. Key components include a digital-first archive to document oral histories, family records, and cultural artifacts, as well as a community research network involving various local stakeholders. Additional planned units include living culture labs, a genealogy cell, a translation wing, and youth fellowships. The proposal also mentions the establishment of an annual Kodava Knowledge Congress to further promote cultural awareness. To mobilize resources, the university suggests a government matching grant model and community outreach initiatives. Ajjikuttira SPonnanna, MLA and legal advisor to the Chief Minister, expressed his support for the initiative, highlighting the need for government cooperation to launch the project.
