The cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination has been legally challenged by Mumbai-based advocate Faiyaz Alam Shaikh, who issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA), the Ministry of Education, and the National Medical Commission (NMC). This notice represents nearly 25 lakh medical aspirants who took the exam on May 3. The NTA announced the cancellation on May 12, citing alleged irregularities, but the notice argues that the agency has not disclosed the extent of these breaches. Shaikh contends that punishing all candidates for the actions of a few constitutes 'collective punishment,' violating constitutional rights. Among the demands are the immediate reversal of the cancellation, results declaration for unaffected candidates, and the establishment of a ₹10 crore relief fund for those affected. Shaikh has warned that if there is no response by May 20, he will file a Public Interest Litigation in the Supreme Court to seek a stay on any re-examination and call for reforms in the NTA's operations.
