On Saturday evening, Delhi experienced a significant weather change as thunderstorms and rain provided much-needed relief from the extreme heat that had gripped the city for several days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for thunderstorms and dust storms, advising residents to stay indoors. Wind speeds were reported at 81 kmph at Pusa Road and 56 kmph at Palam, causing disruptions in visibility and traffic. Visibility at Palam airport dropped dramatically from 3,500 meters to 1,500 meters due to dust storms. Light to moderate rainfall was recorded across the National Capital Region (NCR), temporarily alleviating the heat that had pushed temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius. However, the IMD warned that temperatures are likely to rise again starting Sunday, with forecasts indicating a maximum of 44 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 28 degrees Celsius. Mahesh Palawat from Skymet Weather explained that a change in wind direction contributed to the sudden weather shift, reducing the dryness in the air that had prevailed due to winds from the Thar Desert. While this storm provides short-term relief, residents should prepare for the return of warmer temperatures.
