Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted the increasing global appeal of yoga, expressing his support for the inaugural World Yogasana Sports Championship 2026, which will take place in Ahmedabad from June 4 to June 8. In a message posted on X, he referred to the championship as a 'significant milestone' in the global sporting journey of Yogasana, which has attracted over 400 athletes from more than 60 countries, including the USA, Ghana, and Malaysia. Modi emphasized that this event not only showcases yoga's popularity but also aims to transform it into a recognized competitive sport, paving the way for its inclusion in the Olympic movement. He will participate virtually in the event on June 4 at 6:40 PM and congratulated the organizers for their innovative efforts. The championship is backed by various Indian government ministries, including the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and the Ministry of Ayush, further solidifying Yogasana's status as a global sporting discipline.
