Political uncertainty continues in Tamil Nadu as Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal criticized Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar for not inviting Vijay, leader of the Tamil Nadu Vikas Katchi (TVK), to form the government. Sibal claimed that governors are acting as 'agents' of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and undermining the Constitution. He emphasized that Vijay should be allowed to prove his majority in the Assembly, citing the Sarkaria Commission's recommendations on post-poll alliances. Despite emerging as the single largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, the TVK lacks the 118 seats needed for a majority. The Congress party, which secured 5 seats, has pledged support to the TVK. However, the governor informed Vijay that the party had not demonstrated sufficient majority support to claim government formation. The BJP maintained that the governor's decisions would adhere strictly to constitutional norms.
