On Thursday, the Punjab Government announced an expansion of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY), extending cashless health insurance to senior citizens living alone, widows, and parents of children settled abroad. Previously, the scheme was limited to families with at least two members. Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh highlighted that the revised guidelines now allow individuals living independently to enroll for treatment benefits. Additionally, 17 new medical procedures, covering various specialties such as ENT, general surgery, and women's healthcare, can now be performed at empanelled private hospitals, easing the burden on government facilities. This change aims to improve access to specialized care and reduce waiting times, particularly in districts with limited services. Currently, approximately 65 lakh families are enrolled in MMSY, which covers nearly 2,300 diseases and procedures across 824 hospitals. To enroll, applicants must provide valid identification and a declaration for verification.
