A 37-year-old woman from Bathinda, Gurpreet Kaur, has undergone a lifesaving heart procedure funded by the Punjab Government’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY). This flagship healthcare initiative provides cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh annually for eligible families. Kaur was diagnosed with a large Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), which posed serious health risks due to abnormal blood flow in her heart. Medical specialists at AIIMS Bathinda recommended a catheter-based procedure to close the defect, which was successfully performed on May 5 using a 24-mm septal occluder device. The financial support from MMSY alleviated the family's concerns over treatment costs, allowing them to access necessary medical care. According to Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, this case exemplifies the scheme's purpose of ensuring accessible quality healthcare. Data from the State Health Agency indicates that over 1.75 lakh patients have benefited from MMSY, with expenditures totaling ₹581.9 crore, demonstrating the program's significant role in enhancing healthcare access across Punjab.
