In a significant enforcement action, Rajan Bala Rathod, a resident of Annabhau Sathe Nagar in Mankhurd, has been detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act. This marks only the second instance of such a detention in Maharashtra, reflecting the state's intensified efforts against repeat narcotics offenders as part of the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat 2028' campaign. Rathod, who allegedly traveled from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai to sell narcotics, has a troubling history with four previous cases under the NDPS Act, as well as five additional criminal cases that include serious charges such as attempt to murder, assault, and robbery. Law enforcement officials indicated that Rathod's continued involvement in drug trafficking, despite prior actions taken against him, warranted preventive detention. The Navi Mumbai crime branch submitted a proposal to the Maharashtra home department, which was approved, leading to Rathod's current detention in Yerwada Central Jail for one year.
