In a tragic incident early Wednesday morning, a bus carrying pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, Jammu, collided with a trailer in Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab. The Volvo bus, which was traveling from Delhi, crashed into the rear of the trailer on the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway near Patarsi Kalan village. The impact resulted in the immediate death of the bus driver, Inderjit Singh, a resident of Ferozepur, and left at least six passengers critically injured. Emergency services were alerted by passers-by, leading to a swift rescue operation by local police and ambulance teams. The critically injured passengers, including individuals aged 24 to 37, were initially treated at Fatehgarh Sahib civil hospital before being transferred to Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh. A total of 42 devotees were on board the bus at the time of the accident, and investigations suggest that speeding may have contributed to the crash. The driver’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination as authorities continue their inquiry into the incident.
