Reggie King-Banks, an 11-year-old from Worsley, Salford, is set to perform as part of the English Youth Ballet's production of Swan Lake at Manchester's Opera House on June 5 and 6. Inspired by the film Billy Elliot, Reggie began dancing at the age of seven and has trained in various styles, including ballet, tap, and jazz. He was selected from over 230 auditioning dancers, showcasing his dedication and talent. Reggie's mother, Sophie King, highlighted his passion for dance and his aspiration to pursue a professional career in the field. Alongside Reggie, 17 other young dancers from Greater Manchester will join the cast of 97, which includes professional dancers from prestigious ballet companies. The English Youth Ballet aims to provide aspiring dancers with real performance experience in a supportive environment. Janet Lewis OBE, the EYB Director, noted the program's focus on developing artistic and performance skills, which has proven beneficial for young dancers. This production offers a unique opportunity for Reggie and his peers to learn from accomplished professionals and gain confidence on stage.
