In a landmark move to enhance the tourism sector, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, has approved comprehensive reforms aimed at reducing bureaucratic barriers for local businesses. The reforms, announced on Wednesday, extend the validity of tour operator registrations from one year to five years, alleviating the annual renewal burden. Additionally, the fragmented registration system for specialized travel activities has been consolidated into a single Travel Agent category, simplifying the process and reducing costs. The hospitality sector will also benefit from the removal of rigid hotel classifications, with a new licensing framework requiring only two documents for a Provisional License valid for 18 months and seven documents for a Permanent License valid for five years. These changes are expected to empower local stakeholders, particularly in remote areas, by simplifying homestay registrations and creating direct livelihood opportunities. LG Saxena emphasized that these reforms aim to make Ladakh a premier global destination by attracting investment and ensuring that the 'Ease of Doing Business' becomes a functional reality.
