Following two devastating fires in Delhi that claimed 18 lives in less than two months, the Delhi government is taking decisive action to enhance fire safety. Home Minister Ashish Sood convened a review meeting to discuss the creation of a Fire Fighting Master Plan covering 3, 15, and 25 years. This plan aims to address fire prevention mechanisms, improve emergency response, and modernize firefighting equipment. The recent tragedies, including a fire in Vivek Vihar that killed nine people and another in Palam that also resulted in nine fatalities, have raised concerns about the effectiveness of current fire safety measures. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed all relevant departments to submit a detailed blueprint identifying causes of recurring fires and proposing preventive measures within 10 days. Public awareness initiatives, including mock drills and educational campaigns, will be crucial in informing citizens about fire safety practices. The government is also focusing on enhancing the internal communication system of the fire department and providing advanced training for firefighters to align with modern technologies.
