The surge in stock prices is attributed to soaring temperatures across India, which have led to expectations of increased power demand. Adani Power's shares have skyrocketed 48% since March 30, adding approximately ₹1.4 lakh crore to its market capitalization, now totaling nearly ₹4.25 lakh crore. Similarly, Tata Power's stock has rallied 20% in the past month, contributing around ₹24,000 crore to its market cap, which now stands at nearly ₹1.45 lakh crore. The India Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave alert for parts of northwest and central India, predicting high temperatures will persist. Experts are also raising concerns about the potential impact of a strong El Niño, which could disrupt rainfall patterns and increase power demand, as seen in previous El Niño years. JM Financial noted that peak power demand typically rises during such conditions, with significant increases recorded in previous years.
