BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla criticized the opposition alliance known as the INDIA bloc, asserting that it lacks a cohesive purpose and is characterized by internal divisions. He pointed out ongoing conflicts, such as the dispute over Rajya Sabha seats between the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress, suggesting that the alliance exists only on paper. His comments were made during a meeting in Delhi attended by prominent opposition figures, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who addressed various national issues such as economic challenges and foreign policy concerns. Kharge emphasized the alliance's unity in opposing several bills in Parliament. However, the meeting saw the absence of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), which opted out due to its rift with Congress in Tamil Nadu. Other notable leaders present included Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav, while Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray participated virtually.
