Google is exploring substantial investments in India, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and the production of servers and drones, as stated by Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology. This announcement coincides with Google CEO Sundar Pichai's declaration of a $185 billion increase in capital expenditure for the year, focusing heavily on AI infrastructure. Notably, Google has committed $15 billion to develop a gigawatt-scale AI ecosystem in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, which includes the establishment of India’s first gigawatt-scale AI hub featuring three data center campuses. The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated approximately 600 acres for this project, which is expected to enhance India's position as a global hub for electronics manufacturing. Vaishnaw highlighted the importance of local production in semiconductors and electronics, calling on companies like Google to manufacture their servers and chips in India. Google Cloud executives have described the project as pivotal for India's digital transformation and its future in the global AI economy.
