In a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, multiple parties, including the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and the Communist Party of India (CPI), have expressed their support for actor Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). This unity comes after Governor RV Arlekar reportedly refused to allow Vijay to take the oath as chief minister, citing that the TVK has not secured the requisite majority in the state assembly. The TVK won 108 seats in the recent elections, emerging as the largest party, but still falls short of the 118 seats needed for a majority. Currently, with the support of the Congress party, Vijay has 113 MLAs backing him. Kamal Haasan, another prominent actor-politician, criticized the Governor's actions as a disrespect to the people's mandate, asserting that Vijay should be allowed to prove his majority in the assembly after taking the oath. Meanwhile, the BJP has stated that Vijay must demonstrate his majority before being sworn in, emphasizing that the election results reflect a fractured verdict.
