The Public Works Department (PWD) in New Delhi is set to implement an AI-based Intelligent Road Maintenance and Monitoring System aimed at enhancing road upkeep and improving complaint management across the city. This comprehensive platform will integrate various data sources to enable real-time monitoring of road conditions and facilitate quicker resolution of civic issues. The initiative will utilize artificial intelligence, video analytics, and mobile inspections to create a centralized mechanism for identifying and addressing road defects. An official stated that the system will provide unified visibility for officials, allowing for efficient tracking of complaints and monitoring of resolution timelines.

The AI system will also automatically detect roadside debris and obstructions through video feeds, significantly reducing response times and improving road safety. In addition, a mobile application will support periodic inspections by enabling field personnel to capture geo-tagged videos and images of road conditions, which will be analyzed using AI to detect defects such as potholes and cracks. This application will classify defects based on severity, aiding in the prioritization of repair work. Furthermore, the project includes monitoring key construction equipment using video analytics to enhance accountability and oversight. The entire system is planned for implementation over a 12-month period.
