The Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi is set to implement an Artificial Intelligence-based road monitoring system known as the Intelligent Road Maintenance and Monitoring System (IRMMS). This system aims to detect potholes, debris, and monitor road construction activities through video feeds, enhancing road maintenance efficiency. The project will initially cover 1,000 km of Delhi's extensive road network, which spans over 18,000 lane kilometers. The PWD maintains approximately 1,386 km of key arterial roads. A budget of ₹23 lakh (around $28,000 USD) has been allocated for the system's design, development, and maintenance. The IRMMS will enable timely identification of road issues, reducing response times for repairs and improving overall monitoring. Additionally, a mobile application will facilitate periodic inspections, allowing for geo-tagged video capture and automatic generation of inspection reports. The project is expected to be completed within 12 months, including the establishment of an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) equipped with at least 1,500 cameras to support the monitoring efforts.
