The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to outsource the maintenance of six heritage water fountains and 16 statues located in the heritage precincts of Fort, Mumbai, with a budget of ₹2.37 crore. The selected sites for maintenance include prominent structures such as the Flora Fountain, Fitzgerald Fountain, and the Bandstand Monument, along with statues of historical figures like Chhatrapati Shivaji and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. The maintenance contract will cover essential tasks such as cleaning and removing algae and mold, ensuring the upkeep of electrical lamps, and providing security for these heritage sites. The appointed contractors will be responsible for daily cleaning, weekly maintenance of grills, lawns, and water tanks, and quarterly cleaning of marble statues with approved agents. Additionally, annual polishing of the marble statues will be required. The BMC initially floated tenders in May 2025 and has recommended Jirnodhar Conservators Pvt Ltd for the contract, which will be presented to the civic standing committee for approval on Wednesday.
