Lucknow Metro is set to revolutionize its East-West Corridor (Phase-1B) by introducing driverless train operations and advanced technologies. The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has issued a tender for the design and manufacture of 15 advanced train sets. These trains will operate in Unattended Train Operation (UTO) mode, utilizing communication-based train control (CBTC) technology to manage speed and station halts automatically. This system aims to enhance operational reliability, reduce human error, and improve service efficiency. Additionally, an AI-driven predictive maintenance system will monitor train performance in real-time, allowing for early fault detection and efficient maintenance processes. Passenger comfort will be prioritized with smart technologies, including sensor-based air-conditioning systems that adjust cooling based on carbon dioxide levels. Safety features have also been upgraded, with each coach equipped with a Passenger Emergency Intercom (PEI) for direct communication with train operators during emergencies. The project is expected to significantly enhance the commuter experience while ensuring safety and operational efficiency. The tender for rolling stock and signaling systems will remain open until June 16, 2026.
